I would think that this number should match number of steps per jotor set for the motor, but it doesn’t. Carriage and paper feed stepping motors in printers and similar applications.

A special feature of this IC is that VREF voltage is constant while the current can be set in 15 steps, allowing drive of motors ranging from phase exciter types to 4W phase exceiter types.
That will give you some idea of the voltage the motors were used at, if the drivers themselves were a wide-range chip. It’s a bummer specs aren’t easily found for these things.
